WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOUR ORTHOTICS

Congratulations...you have received your orthotics. Please follow the instructions for care and “breaking-in” of your orthotics. It is important that you follow your health care provider’s instructions so you can achieve optimum results. You must gradually adapt to your devices, especially if you have never worn orthotics before. As a rule, wear them one hour the first day, two hours the second day, and increase wearing time by one hour each day. Normal “break-in” time is from two weeks to two months. Your health care provider may deviate from these instructions to adapt your orthotics to your unique condition. Mild foot, leg or back discomfort may occur when you initially wear you orthotics. This should decrease with each subsequent day. A low heel shoe should be worn for the first two weeks. A tie shoe, sneaker or tennis shoe is an excellent shoe to wear during this period. After this “break-in” period, you may wear other types of shoes with the exception of shoes with heels that exceed 1 1Ú2 " heel height. If you wear high heel shoes, talk to your health care provider and he or she can dispense a narrow cut dress orthotic for you to wear in high heel shoes. Socks or stockings should be worn during the adjustment period to minimize irritation. Some slipping of the orthotics may occur. This occurs more often in women’s shoes but will usually diminish in about six weeks. If the orthotic does not seat properly in the shoe, we recommend you try a different pair of shoes or shoe style. You should clean the surface of your orthotics with mild soap and water and let them air dry. Never use hot water to clean your orthotics because it may affect the materials used in your devices. Never put your orthotics in the washing machine. The material selected for your orthotics is specially produced for optimum results, and care should be taken to make sure your orthotics last a long time.

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF POWDER ON THE SURFACE OF YOUR ORTHOTICS. POWDER WILL CLOG THE SURFACE AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE MATERIAL TO BREATHE.
